The Beatles in Cincinnati, Ohio

I ran across this on YouTube and just had to post it. It is a home movie of the Beatles in concert in Cincinnati, Ohio from August 1966. They concert was in the middle of the day because they were suppose to have played the night before but it was rained out. So they played around noon the next day. I heard that since they had planned for an over night stay they secretly asked an older couple if they would let them stay at their home. Of course they did and so they had a good nights sleep while the fans watched the hotels. The person who told me this was the son of a salesman for the radio station that was backing the concert. He said his Dad wouldn't even tell him where they were staying.

Hmmm...there may be a bit of that clip that's a home movie but overall it's awfully professionally edited. Also, I somehow doubt you would have someone with that many close shots of the group on stage being an amateur, too. In fact, I'm pretty sure I recognize the shots of John in particular as being from WCPO's coverage that they've rerun from time to time.

Also, doesn't that story about the older couple sound suspiciously like the DICK VAN DYKE episode where Chad & Jeremy do just that? An episode that aired a full year and a half earlier than this concert. Call me skeptical.

The person who told me the story was the Manager of the shoe store where I worked when I was in college. He never lied to me about anything so I believe him. Maybe that episode gave them the idea.
I know that the video seems more professional. But I still classify it as a home video.

I never said your friend was lying, just misinformed. Former WEBN newsman Rick Bird wrote in the Cincinnati Post in August of 2004:
" (In 1964)The Beatles would not spend the night in Cincinnati, flying out after the show, much to the disappointment of the Vernon Manor, which had donated a floor of suites to the Fab Four. (They would stay at the venerable hotel in 1966, spending the night after their Crosley Field concert was rained out and rescheduled a day later)."

Sorry if I sounded over sensitive. It has been over 40 years since it happened and over 20 years since I heard the story so someone's memory is a little faulty. I don't know if it is the newsmans, my friends or mine but at least one of us is remembering it incorrectly.

I attended that concert, with my 15 year-old sister. It was her birthday. I was 12, and my cousin was 9 years old. We had to dry out our clothes by hanging them over the shower curtain in a motel room which my parents rented nearby so that we could go back the next day at noon. My parents had planned to wait for us outside the stadium, but instead, bought tickets, and sat at the top tier of Crosley Field, and my mother wrote down the first line of every song they sang. We could hear nothing at our level, because of the screaming.

I was also at the concert, after spending the night in some neighborhood across the river with two school mates in my '54 Chevy. Could rarely tell what song was being sung. Ringo was almost blocked by the canopy/tent they had set up that day--it was hot and sunny--but, who could forget it. And where is the video? Is there other footage of the concert around?
