Quinn Martin

I am doing this in part because I want to honor Mr. Martin and partly because I had fun doing the Aaron Spelling series. If Aaron Spelling was the ruling producer of television in the 70's then his predecessor would have to be Quinn Martin. Mr. Martin was born in May 1922 under the name Martin Cohn. He got his start in Hollywood as a writer and wrote for Desilu Playhouse and the Jane Wyman show. Eventually he left Desilu to form his own production company. He was quite successful. His production style was one of the first to use a teaser at the beginning of each program and a voice over announcer that sometimes continued throughout the program. He was so successful with this form that the 1982 sitcom Police Squad parioded it every week. How many babyboomers remember hearing an announcer saying "A Quinn Martin production."? In later years Mr. Martin sold his company, QM Productions, to Taft Broadcasting. They had a clause that required that Mr. Martin not do anything that would compete against Taft for 5 years. So Mr. Martin started teaching at Warren College. He came back in the 1980's to make movies but unfortunatly he passed away in 1987. If you want more info on him you can go to this site. Posted by Picasa
