Batman:The Brave and the Bold Pushed Back

I just heard from James that the return of Batman: The Brave and the Bold was pushed back at the last minute. So instead of returning tonight it will return on May 8th. You may have seen the clip below before. If not here is the first look at the Huntress from the May 8th episode "Night of the Huntress." Feature episodes will feature Booster Gold, Bat Mite, Red Tornado and Robin.

SuperFriends the Lost Episodes

I saw at Superman Homepage and here that on August 11th the SuperFriends Lost episodes will be for sale.
During the 1982-1983 season, ABC continued to run a half-hour long show entitled The Best of the Superfriends. This show consisted of reruns of shows from the previous nine seasons. These episodes were mostly half-hour long episodes (not shorts) featuring the core group of five Superfriends. By the time the 1983-1984 season rolled around, older Superfriends series were well into sydication, and could be viewed on weekday afternoons. Therefore in its ultimate stupidity, ABC decided to drop the Superfriends from the 1983-1984 Saturday morning television line-up. However, during this time Hanna-Barbera continued to produce new episodes of the Superfriends. In fact, 24 of these so-called "Lost Episodes" were animated but not aired in the United States that season. Three of these episodes were aired when the Superfriends returned to Saturday morning ABC television the following year. The remainder of the episodes finally aired in syndication years later as part of the Superman/Batman Adventures.

Rest in Peace Bea Arthur

I just heard that Bea Arthur, known to TV fans for her hit shows Maude and Golden Girls, passed away. Most remember her from Golden Girls and tend to forget her series Maude that ran from 1972 to 1978. Here is a video of the opening credits. Womens lib in the 70's was a hot topic and as you can tell by the credits the comedy tackled that issue head on.

Frank Miller's The Spirit

For years I hoped they would make a movie or TV series out of The Spirit. Finally comic book writer and artist Frank Miller made it one of his projects when he became a movie director. I thought this will be great. When I read his comic books I always thought they looked more like movies in the film noir vein. When it came to theaters I thought I would see it but I kept reading mixed reviews. So I held off. Recently I got it from the library. When I saw it I was underwelmed and thankful that I got it for free from the library.

The movie is in color but in most scenes you can hardly tell. Miller can't seem to make up his mind if he is filming the story in present day or the 1940's. I would have prefered the 1940's. The endless beatings he takes are in there and that is mostly what the movie is about. The Octopus injected him with a chemical when he died that made him immortal. It was a test by the Octopus to see if it worked. Then Octopus would use it on him. Speaking of the Octopus, only Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss seem to be enjoying their parts in the movie. Also I did enjoy some of the comic book referances. Young Denny Colt reading an EC horro comic book was good. I liked seeing one of the delivery trucks named Ditko's but why not name them Eisner's deliveries. The Spirit in this movie was shocaced as a Ladies Man. I never had that impression of him. Ellen was always his lady. He was just so good looking that other women seemed to always fall at his feet. In the movie he was always coming on to them. Even in front of Ellen. In short I think Mr. Miller's vision of the Spirit could have been better.

2009 Saturday Night Oldies Radio program. The show airs from 6pm to 10pm EST. It can be heard in the NYC area on 770 AM. The station has a wide listening range so you may be able to hear it in surrounding states, some as far as Florida.

Well I have finally been tagged. It is something I have looked forward to and dreaded at the same time. I was correct in dreading it. I have been tagged by Booksteve. Now here are....

Now six random things about me that you may not know.
1. I wrote a carpet commercial that was actually produced. It's the one where someone is giving a party and sees someone spill something. They dive to catch the spill so that it doesn't hurt their new carpet. I hired a young lady to storyboard it then I took it to McSwain Carpets to try and get a job in their advertising department. The man didn't hire me but photocopied the storyboard to keep me in mind if a position opened. Less then a year later I saw the commercial on TV and was never paid or given credit. To this day I still see different variations of it on TV.

2. My wife and I met after a month of e-mailing each other through Christian web site.

3. I created and had a book published called Dinky the Elf. That isn't news to readers of this site but what might be is that my cousin josn found an action figure this Christmas that looked a lot like the character and gave it to me for Christmas. So now I have an unofficial dancing (yes it dances when wound up) action figure of my creation.

4. I use to try out for recreations at Old Time Radio Conventions. In one recreation we were all asked to sign a copy of the script. It was then auctioned off. To this day I can't believe that someone paid for my autograph. Also, in the cast were my cousin and his wife. It seemed funny that since there were only 6 people in the cast that half of the cast was family.

5. In the 1990's I worked for Lucent Technologies and one year won an award for best all around sales person.

6. I once acted in a student production that was directd by a friend and put on local cable. For months I was recognized from that 15 minute play on TV. Most of those times it was when I was in the directors neighborhood as they all watched since they knew him.

Major Matt Mason: the Movie

Even if you are one of the few who didn't like the Transformers movie it did do one thing. It got Major Matt Mason back on Hollywood's radar. Thanks to Pop Culture Safari I was directed to Empire On Line. There they tell how Tom Hanks is signed to play the lead role in the action film based on the toy. Finally! I have waited for something like this since 1966.

I saw these pictures on e-bay. Don't look for a link as the auction already ended when I saw it. It was for 16mm film of the episode. Davy played a husband who would get high by sniffing glue and then would beat his wife (Yvonne Craig.)

There Is No Life On Mars

I just read in TV Guide that my favorite new show this season, Life On Mars, has been cancelled. The show is about policeman Sam Tyler who has an accident in 2008 and wakes up in 1973. Now he tries to find out why he is there and how he can get back to 2008. The cancellation is sad to me as the American version is one that I made sure that I was at home to watch or tape and on rare times watch on line. The show itself was very good and it had a great soundtrack. I hope they will release a soundtrack album. It has been a long time since I heard songs by Elton John, Ringo Starr, David Bowie etc. sometimes all on the same episode. My favorite came with episode #12 in the show titled "The Simple Secret of the Note in Us All." In the opening scene they use the song "It Don't Come Easy" by Ringo Starr. Harvey Keitel's character Gene Hunt comes around the corner and that image with the song just seemed so cool. Ringo should be very happy with that video on ABC for his song. Merchandising?

No I am not really selling these. This all started when I was looing do see if there were any hats with Captain America or Plastic Man on them since I am not a Tee Shirt kind of guy. I have them but I rarely wear them. Anyway I found that there are some with the Captain but none were found for Plas. I went to a site were you can make custom hats. I decided to use them to promote my sites. However, one thing kept me from doing it. The cost. The reason I am not telling the name of the site is because the cost seemed low at the time. But it only covered the hat. By the time they added in other cost it was too much. But the previews of the hats looked good so I am sharing them with you on the sites I did them for.

Rare Uncle Al Footage

Recently two broadcasting legends died who meant a lot to me. Broadcasting was my major in school. I had hoped to make my living with it. While that didn't happen I still take it hard when something like this happens. I can't yet form the words to espress how I feel at the passing of children's show host Uncle Al or broadcaster Paul Harvey. Till I can at least for Uncle Al, this behind the scenes video of Uncle Al will have to do. Look at how happy everyone seems in this home movie from youtube.com. This is how he made all kids feel. The video is silent so nothing is wrong with your computer.

I just saw this on YouTube.com. It looks like a fan creation and it give us a look at what might have been if the Watchmen had a cartoon series.

Pray for Peter Tork

You may have heard this already but Monkees band/cast memeber and leader of the bnad Shoe Suede Blues Peter Tork has been diagnosed with a rare form of head and neck cancer, Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. You can read more on his site Petertork.com. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Peter.
To end on a more upbeat note Peter was asked if he would ever play with the Monkees again. He said "Well, never say never."

Does anyone know what happened to the USA Network show To Love and Die? It stars were Shiri Appleby and Tim Matheson. My wife and I watched Monk and Psych this weekend and wondered what happened to it. We saw the pilot and it was very good but then it never seemed to come back on.

Moon Knight the TV Star

I just saw at Comicbookmovie.com that Marvel has signed a deal to give Moon Knight his own live action TV Show. With the Batman movies being a big hit this may work. After all MK was at one time suppose to be Marvel's answer to Batman. I can't wait to see this show. It would be fun to see the Halloween episode where he takes on Werewolf By Night.

A Monkees fill in the blank contest

On the right you see I asked readers of this blog to vote on their favorite Monkees love songs. I did this as I was going to run this contest. Fill in something that Peter is saying and for the winner I will burn off a CD of Monkees love songs for you to get before Valentines Day. Hopefully Rhino Records will see this and release a real CD of them in time for Valentines Day next year. The one that I think is the funniest will be the winner. The contest will end on Feb. 1st. My First Comic Shop

Well I went to Phil's Records today perhaps for the last time. Oh I still like the place but it's just that they are moving. I heard about it a couple of weeks ago but I didn't hear the date. I just stop for one last visit and found out that today was the last day. So I bought a little bit more then I planned on. You see they are moving to an area where I haven't been in about 10 years. So I may never see the store again. Now why am I writing about a record store when the title is called my first comic shop? Well they also sold comic books. They didn't have a huge supply but I could always go there and find something if the regular store didn't have it and that was rare. After I left I thought about the first comic book store that Ifound in my area. My cousin Randy and I saw an ad in the newspaper for Conner's Comics. It was near Industrial Road and both of us had our parents drive us over there to look for the store. My folks must have driven me up and down that road and the side roads at least a dozen times before they gave up hope of finding it. About a week later Randy and I were going down Dixie Highway to the YMCA. We saw a small store across the street that had comic books in the window. We made a promise to each other to stop there on the way back. After a good time of swimming at the Y we headed home and stop there on the way back. It was when I was looking at the books that I saw in the window from the street that I noticed something. It was laying flat so it wasn't viewable from the street. I picked it up with my eyes wide in amazement. I called to Randy and held up what I had just found. It was a wood sign and carved into it was the name of the store. It was Conner's Comics. It seems that it was near Industrial Road when the ad came out but soon moved to this location. We wound up finding the store when we quit looking for it. The store was only at that location for less then a year but I had alot of fun there and learned alot about my hobby. It was the first time I took a comic book to the store to sell to them. It was Justice League of America #129. Like any kid I folded it up and put it in my back pocket and made my way to the store. When I took it out and tried to sell it the counter person told me the crease made it worthless. That was how I learned to keep them in the best condition that I can.
I only saw one person at the store and when Randy and I talk to him he told us he knew nothing about comic books. He only collected baseball cards. When someone had a question about comic books he had to look it up. I was amazed at that revelation. Why hire someone who doesn't know anything about the hobby? Maybe he was the only one who applied. Maybe I will remember more stories related to this subject and share them with you some time later.
