16 Days of Batman

I meant to post this yesterday but everything started breaking loose around here and I didn't get to do that. So the 16 day of Batman are now down to 15 days. The two Robs, Robby Reed of Dial B For Blog and Roby Kelly of Coming Super Attractions, have teamed up to bring you 16 day of Batman related material. Dial B For Blog has articles of the old Batman TV show from teen magazine 16. He even has some photos of pop groups back then like Paul Revere and the Raiders and the Beatles. Paul Grill Master

I saw this photo over at the Beatle Photo Blog and at first I laughed. It seemed like at joke to have Paul McCartney barbecuing in the backyard. I thought someone had photoshopped his head onto someone else. The farther I read it told how he was making veggie burgers. So it wasn't quite as funny but I still have to smile at this picture.

This Day In Music History: Elvis and (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

Somehow word got out to his fans that Elvis collected Teddy Bears. He didn't but fans from all over the world sent him Teddy Bears for his collection. He didn't have one before the rumor started but he did now.
Songwriters Kal Mann and Bernie Lowe got wind of the rumor. They had to write a new song for the new movie that starred Elvis and Lizabeth Scott called "Loving You" and wrote (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear. Elvis recorded the song in March of 1957. It was released only a few short weeks later in 1957 before the movie. The movie had Elvis playing a rock and roll star and there were many scenes with Elvis in concert singing. Two of the concert goers in one scene were his parents Vernon and Gladys Presley. After his Mother died in August of 1958 Elvis would never watch that scene again.
The song became a #1 hit on the Billboard charts on this day in music history July 8, 1957. The next day, July 9th, the film was released. The song was a great advertisement for the film.
What happened to Elvis' Teddy Bear collection? The day after Christmas in 1957 Elvis donated it to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.

Here for the first time kids got to see the Atom, Hawkman,Flash etc of the Justice League of America and the Teen Titans. Now you can get them on DVD. Ok yesterday was the album covers of Boston now we look at the flip side from hard rock (well maybe Boston was Medium Rock) to soft rock.

Boston Album Covers

I was in a music department yesterday and Boston's Greatest Hits caught my eye. I was never a big fan of their music but I did like a couple of their songs. The album art was always eye catching. The style, even if it was release in the 90's like their greatest hits, always screamed 1970's to me. Here are the albums I am most familiar with.

Beach Boys Holland

What would a 4th of July weekend be if we didn't hear from or at least discuss the Beach Boys. Over at Forgotten Hits Kent talks about the group from the years 1973-176 and what I consider their dumbest move yet. When they moved to Holland. At least they got a good song out of it.

Best of Smothers Brothers Season 3

Time/Life is releasing the best of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour on August 1, 2008. These were hand picked by Tom and Dick and you get free shipping. Click on the link above to get this groundbreaking landmark TV series. The series showcased comedians like George Carlin, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin and David Steinberg. It also featured many rock and roll stars of the day like The Doors Donovan and Ike and Tina Turner.

Originally Time/Life released the entire series of Get Smart to the viewing public and that was the only way you get it. Slowly they are starting to release them season by season. Dial B does the Hawk and the Dove

Here is a shout out for Dial B For Blog. Robby is giving us a look at my favorite 60's superhero duo the Hawk and the Dove. Robby taught me a couple of things I didn't know. Did you know the reason Steve Ditko left DC was because... Maybe you should go to his site and read about it.

When I was searching for a DC Comic book character to start the site that eventually became Plastic Man Platitudes, high on my list were the Hawk and the Dove. They came in second only because Plastic Man had been around longer and I thought I could find more on him then I could the Hawk and the Dove. I believe I was right but I still wish I had started a Hawk and the Dove site.
